Phoenix was not a world champion, but he was champion
of my world. On June 30, 2009, Meadow's Phoenix, Morgan
stallion extraordinaire, passed from this mortal earth.
I was with him. I hope my presence eased his way into his
next life. He took part of me with him.
I will surely miss his regal presence at his gate every
day, and his sunbathing sojourns in his paddock, and the
way he welcomed every mare we unloaded with that "Is she
for me? " attitude. I will miss his kindness, affection,
his great beauty, lovely head, and the smoothness of his
gaits.
He was bred by Dan and Lucy Redman of Meadow Haven Morgans,
Raleigh, North Carolina. I knew the moment I saw him that
this horse was for me. He was eighteen months old at the
time.
There will never be another Phoenix. He was one of a
kind. For twenty-six years he was my show horse, and my
personal riding and driving horse. He showed for ten years
at open and 'A' rated breed shows, winning fifty-three championships
in western pleasure, English pleasure, and driving. Most
of these championships were celebrated with Dunkin' Donuts
and beer . . . his favorite treats.
Phoenix sired thirty-six foals - primarily fillies.
Many went on to be show horses in classic pleasure, English
pleasure, western pleasure, hunter, and open jumping. Some
were just loved family horses. His daughters will carry
on for him.
When the going was tough, Phoenix was tougher. He had
more heart and stamina than any other horse I've ever met.
I was and am honored to be his owner, his champion, and
his love . . . until we meet again, Phoenix.
